Often it's easiest just to use your old computer, if you have one. When the insane god Khull-Khuum was rampaging the world, devastating everything on his way, the only person who survived the destruction of the Stonekeep castle was a boy named Drake, saved by a mysterious figure. This helps with games like Amber that simply won't run at all on NT-based operating systems (like Windows XP and 2000). Sometimes it's easier to run older games using Virtual PC with Windows 95 or 98 installed inside the virtual machine. The result is a black screen or corrupted graphics with newer cards. These may have worked for old video cards, but can cause problems with newer cards. Some older games made use of non-standard VESA modes. Sometimes a PC slowdown program will help with this. Old games may have divide by zero errors if run on modern computers because they were designed for computers that were 1/10 or less the speed of modern computers. If these "Windows 95-based" games are actually DOS games that have been tweaked to run in Windows 95 (for example, if they expect you to configure your sound card during or shortly after the install and ask about IRQ's and such), you'll need something like VDMSound to emulate an old sound card.ĭOS-based games probably work better in DOSBox. Sometimes you need to turn off unnecessary background programs, including antivirus, screensaver, anti-spyware, anti-adware, and firewall programs both before you install and while playing the game. The patch ***here*** is supposed to fix that. Sometimes updating to XP SP2 destroys files that allow compatibility mode to work properly. Sometimes you need to install into the My Documents folder instead of the default location (which is usually a subfolder in Program Files) if you have XP SP2. Sometimes you need to disable visual themes and advanced text services on the compatibility tab. I'm not familiar with those particular games, so the following is just general info on running old Win 95 games.
